1988 saw the grand opening of Westpac House, the tallest building in South Australia’s capital city. It was officially opened as the “State Bank Building” and later became “Santos House” following the collapse of the State Bank in the 90’s.

GBA Projects provided the necessary planning and scheduling support to Constress (now known as Bianco Precast) for the mould design, fabrication and supply of prefabricated structural elements. GBA Projects also planned, monitored and controlled the delivery and erection program onsite. Several extension of time claims emerged and were quickly approved due to the ongoing scheduling and monitoring of the works.

Westpac HouseThe information from the Constress estimating system was modified to directly import and create detailed activities with appropriate costs estimates as well as logical relationships into Open Plan and Dbase 3 thus enabling GBA Projects to automate the lengthy process of developing a project schedule. To further this “work smarter, not harder” approach to schedule development, GBA Projects then customised Open Plan to develop a “cut and shut” algorithm which enabled the schedulers to quickly adjust the precast sequence and reduce the amount of re-linking required between activities.

This same algorithm was modified to another Constress project in February 2009 for use with Open Plan 3.1.

1988 also saw the development of the 45 Pirie Street building in the Adelaide CBD. Working for Bettaform, GBA Projects provided detailed planning and scheduling support for the FRP sequence of work and coordinated the formwork, rebar and concrete sub-contractors on site. Again, with detailed planning, extensions of time became readily supported by accurate documentation and assisted in the delivery of the project.

It was also in 1988 that GBA Projects took on its first employee Lachlan Kinnear.
